Education Sector Policy (including workplace policy)

The aim of this thematic group is to encourage the development of an education sector HIV&AIDS policy.

The Ministry has prepared a proposal for the development of an HIV&AIDS policy on HIV&AIDS for the education sector through a consultative process. The document contains priority policy issues, interventions and strategies on the Ministry’s HIV&AIDS response. These include:

• Creating an enabling environment
• Risk reduction to prevent new infections
• Care and support
• Decentralised Implementation

The proposal has been distributed to partners for their assistance in developing the policy.

Key policy questions that discussed are:

How can high risk behaviours among education workers, teachers, students/pupils and national service personnel be reduced?

How do we mobilise resources to support prevention, care and support interventions?
 
How do we ensure privacy and confidentiality?

How can the sector protect the infected and affected?

What are the ways for monitoring the impact of HIV&AIDS on the sector?
