2011 School Health and Nutrition Short Course
In its 7th year the internationally renowned Annual Short Course on Strengthening Contemporary School Health, Nutrition & HIV Prevention Programmes returns to Kenya on 24-31 October.
This interactive and participatory short course aims to strengthen the capacity of the health and education sectors to respond effectively to the needs of school-age populations at the country level.
This dynamic course successfully developed and continuously refined over 7 years, offers:
- Up-to-date and comprehensive introduction to concepts and good practices in improving the health, nutrition and education of schoolchildren.
- Expert facilitation by current practitioners with recognized international and regional knowledge in school health and nutrition (SHN).
- Visits to schools and communities to see the FRESH framework in action.
- Exceptional opportunity for information exchange, debate and continued learning among those engaged in SHN programme policy and implementation.
The principal objective of the course is to develop country-specific response plans reflecting all aspects of the FRESH framework.
Building Capacity
Course facilitators with recognised expertise in SHN and HIV prevention, school feeding, deworming and water and sanitation assist participants to develop country-specific response plans by stimulating lively discussion on current and ongoing issues.
The course places a strong emphasis on country capacity building and the strengthening of regional partner initiatives which seek to harmonize SHN and HIV prevention activities, thereby contributing to the achievement of Education for All and the Millennium Development Goals.
Follow up technical suppprt is provided to participating countries to enabel these plans to be successfully implemented.
The course is co-hosted by the Eastern and Southern African Centre for International Parasite Control(ESACIPAC), based at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), the West African Centre for International Parasite Control (WACIPAC) based at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) and the Partnership for Child Development (PCD), based at Imperial College London.
