Education's response to HIV and AIDS

Education has a critical role to play in preventing HIV infections and in building capacity to respond to the effects of HIV and AIDS on individuals, families and communities.
School-age children have the lowest HIV prevalence of any age group. There is therefore a window of hope, a chance to live a life free from AIDS. With a proper education they can acquire the knowledge, skills and values they need to protection themselves from infection.
The world's education sector has produced a wide range of resources to help support the work of national education programmes to respond to the HIV epidemic.

School Health, Nutrition, HIV and AIDS

Ensuring that children are healthy and able to learn is an essential component of an effective education system. Good health increases enrolment and reduces absenteeism, and brings more of the poorest and most disadvantaged children to school, many of whom are girls. It is these children who are often the least healthy and most malnourished, and who have the most to gain educationally from improved health.
